Hornbill Festival was launched by the Government of Nagaland in December 2000 and organized by the State Tourism and Art & Culture Departments to encourage Inter-tribal and to promote cultural heritage of the state. This festival takes place between 1 and 10 December every year. It is held at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama which is about 12 km from Kohima. The aim of the festival is to revive and protect the rich culture of Nagaland and display its history, culture and traditions. The festival activities are:

  • The sale of arts and crafts
  • Foo stalls
  • Herbal medicine stalls
  • Flower shows and sales
  • Cultural medley - songs and dances
  • Fashion shows
  • The miss Nagaland beauty contest
  • Traditional archery

Day 01: Delhi- Guwahati:

Arrival at Delhi airport then connecting flight to Guwahati. After a brief welcome ceremony at Guwahati airport, drive to city and check into your hotel room. Guwahati is the gateway to the North-Eastern states of India and is a fast growing premier city. The Chinese traveler, Hieun Tsang, who visited Guwahati in the 7th century, showered lavish praise on the city. Situated on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra, and encircled by low green hills, Guwahati abounds temples, picnic spots, and museums. Overnight stay at Guwahati.


Day 02: Guwahati - Kaziranga National Park:

After breakfast visit Kamakhya Temple, a Major Hindu Pilgrimage site. During the festival of Ambubashi more than a million devotees throng this holy place. Return to hotel after paying homage to the mother goddess Kamakhya and drive on to famous Kaziranga National park. Spreading over an area of 430 sq. km., the park is the natural habitat of the great Indian one-horned rhinoceros. It also houses elephant, Indian bison, swamp deer, leopard cat, jungle cat, hog badger, langur, hoolock gibbon, jackal, goose, hornbills, ibis, cormorants, egret, heron fishing eagles and a number of migratory birds that can be sighted in winter. It is recognized as a world heritage site by UNESCO. One of the most visited wildlife reserves of India, Kaziranga figures quite often on the itinerary of discerning tourists from around the world. Check into a resort on arrival. Stay overnight at Kaziranga. (220 kms /5 hrs drive)


Day 03: Kaziranga National Park:

Early morning explore central Range of Kaziranga National Park on Elephant Safari. On return explore the eastern range on a jeep safari. Return for lunch and proceed to Western Range of Kaziranga National Park on jeep. Stay overnight at Kaziranga.


Day 04: Kaziranga National Park -Kohima:

After breakfast drive to Kohima and check into hotel. Evening visit local market (If time permits). Dinner and Overnight stay at kohima. (250 km/7 hrs)


Day 05: Kohima: 

After breakfast visit to hornbill festival and enjoy all the activities at there. Dinner and Overnight stay at kohima.


Day 06: Khonoma:

In the morning, visit the Kohima War cemetery, a memorial in honour of those soldiers killed in what is regarded as one of the most important battles fought during World War II. Thereafter, drive to Kisama for another day of festivities and in the afternoon drive to Khonoma village 20 km. 1 hr, belonging to the Angami Naga tribe. Nagas are traditionally hunter gatherers and much of the wildlife and birdlife in Nagaland has been decimated as a result of excessive hunting. Khonoma, the first and only green village in Nagaland is a fine example of conservation by the local community, where hunting and logging is banned. The landscape of Khonoma with its terraced fields and surrounding hills is breathtakingly beautiful, overnight stay at Khonoma.


Day 07: Dimapur:

In the morning after breakfast drive to Dimapur 2hrs. Visit Rangapahar Reserve Forest famous for its plants iety which is of great medical importance and hence, conserve here for future use Apart from this, you will find a iety of animals in this place which can only be found here. You can also visit Kachari ruins. The Kachari Ruins, the set of ruins in Dimapur, Nagaland, dates back its existence to 10th century and today stands as an epitome of historical tourism in the state. The ruins are a series of mushroom domed pillars created by the Kachari Kingdom. Overnight at Dimapur


Day 08: Guwahati - Airport Transfer Morning:

After breakfast Check out from hotel later drop to Guwahati Airport then connecting flight to Delhi for your onwards journey. (Tour Ends)
